As any seasoned aromatherapy vaporizer user will tell you, it's important to perform an empty burn off when you get a new device. An empty vaporizer burn off involves heating up the vaporizer without any herb inside, in order to remove these substances that may be left over from the production process. Think of it as a sort of vaporizer sterilization process.
Most of the well known brands like Storz & Bickel, PAX, DaVinci and Arizer ensure a robust quality checking process. However, we still like to take an extra step of precaution. This is especially important for aromatherapy vaporizers, as inhaling these substances can be harmful to your health.
In this article, we'll provide instructions for performing empty burn offs on some popular aromatherapy vaporizers, including the Mighty+, PAX 3, DynaVap and Davinci devices.

Why Perform an Empty Vaporizer Burn Off?
When vaporizers and aromatherapy devices are made in factories and transported across the globe, there may be some manufacturing residues or oils that are left over in the device. These can include lubricants, solvents, and other chemicals that are not intended to be inhaled. Performing an empty vaporizer burn off is a way to ensure that your device is safe to use, and that you won't be inhaling any harmful substances.
Do you wash a new shirt before wearing it the first time? Do you wash apples before eating them? It's a similar concept!
Performing an empty vaporizer burn off is also a key step in keeping your aromatherapy device clean. After using isopropyl alcohol or soapy water on your device, a burn-off is used to make sure cleaning residues are eliminated.
How do I perform a burn-off on my vaporizer?
Although not all aromatherapy vaporizers have instructions to burn-off the device before first usage, we highly recommend it. Simply set it to the highest temperature without loading the oven. Let your aromatherapy device heat up and leave it idle for 5-10 minutes without inhaling.
Here are some detailed instructions for performing empty burn offs on some popular aromatherapy vaporizers we carry at Pocket Ovens. We recommend performing the vaporizer burn off twice but always check for any residual odors and perform more than twice if necessary. If your device is new out of the box, ensure that it is fully charged first. As the name indicates, the oven is always empty when running an empty burn-off.
